I've been so busy that I can't see straight. And we had a foundation leak in our master bathroom. Can you say MESS?? Ewww...it's just beyond what I can think of right now. Tom spent 2 days digging up our bedroom/bathroom floor just trying to locate the leak. They actually put the pipes in concrete!! What were they thinking???
Anyway, after a few floods, and a visit from a plumber to just stop the insanity...I'm exhausted but wanted to share that Mike called during dinner yesterday and then I received a letter in the mail today! During his phone call he told me he wrote me a three page letter yesterday. Wow! I can't wait!!
He sounded really tired. :( He was also mad. Apparently they got put BACK in red phase. I won't even use the language he used to describe the reason why, but he's not a happy camper.
I started writing my "countdown" in the top right corner of the letters I send. Now he's doing it! LOL It's too funny.
He said he got to fire a M240B, he had us look it up on youtube.com. Pretty interesting...my kid wasn't allowed to play with knives 10 years ago and now he's blasting away with a machine gun with REALLY BIG BULLETS! He sounded excited about that. :)
He said they did rifle qualifications...got 32 out of 40, from 50 meters to 300 meter without using a scope. He said he's a sharpshooter and that he gets "a cool new badge" on his Class A's.
I asked him what he wanted to eat when we came up in October for Family weekend. He said a Buffet and Dairy Queen. LOL OH, and he asked that he get to sleep past 04:30. He also wants to go to a Heavy Metal club. :\ Not sure that will happen...maybe I'll just bring a pile of CDs.
He also wants a custom bumpersticker made. I need to think of how to say what he wants without getting myself banned from Zazzle. LOL
oh well..yet another challenge to keep life interesting.

The phone calls from basic are precious! When my husband was in I got 2 calls (one of which I missed!) the entire time. They stayed in red phase until literally a week before graduation. There was two to three guys who just couldn't get it through their thick skulls to stop bringing contraband into the barracks. I hate group discipline because the other guys are not allowed harass the trouble makers... they just share the punishment. What's up with that!?

Your post put a smile on my face. My son used to stand in line a good portion of the day on Sunday's to be able to talk to us for 2 min at at time. I remember when he told us about his gun & the grenades....he was so excited. Sorry he had to go back to red phase...can imagine the language. My son couldn't understand how the others just couldn't get it after so many weeks in. Can't wait to see your new bumper sticker!

ReplyDeleteClaire - my son (he's 11B - Infantry) that during OSUT you're not supposed to harass the trouble makers but they do. They either try NOT to get caught or they take the smoking. He told me sometimes it's worth a good smokin' :) It's really funny when he tells me the story of a time or two where the entire platoon claimed to have done the deed (really only 1 or 2 did) so they'd all take the smoking together. I have some great stories to share from his OSUT and I'm trying to persuade him to share them....

Debbi: Mine also can't understand why some guys can't get it. But he said it's not his platoon that causes the trouble, so they can't even harass the offending buttheads when no one is looking. :P
I still haven't started the bumpersticker. I'm swamped with work so it will have to wait.
Infantry: no worries. My partner won't let me speak to clients before I've had coffee...so I can relate. :D

And then you'll spew a bunch of gibberish in less than 20 seconds and then wonder what the heck you just said after the call is over. :D Or you'll start crying like I did. LOL Hopefully you won't do any of that, but if you do...feel free to vent to us about it over here or at GAP. I couldn't believe I did that after everyone told me not to. But when your mom gene takes over, there ain't no stopping it! LOL
